Chat
Knowledge
What the workspace has taught its agents, how it gets there, and how it is used.
Knowledge is the shared memory of the workspace: files you uploaded, pages agents read, meeting transcripts, and what runs wrote down. Every chat, agent and automation can search it.
Where knowledge comes from
- Uploads. In any chat, open the side panel, go to Knowledge and choose Upload file. PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, images and text are extracted and indexed.
- Web pages. Add web page fetches the page and stores its text.
- Snippets. Add snippet stores a piece of text with a title, for facts that live nowhere else.
- Meetings. Every recorded meeting adds its transcript and summary. See Meetings.
- Runs. When an agent reads a document during a task or records a result, it lands here too.
The Knowledge page
Knowledge in the sidebar lists everything with its status. The header counts items and how many are ready to search; an item that is still being processed says so. Items that came from a meeting link back to it.
How it is used
When you send a message, cmdk retrieves the pieces of knowledge most relevant to it and shows them to the model before it answers. You do not have to mention a file for it to be found; attach it to the message if you want it read in full.
Agents in channels and automations do the same during their steps, and can look things up explicitly with their recall tools.
Workspace context files
Two short files sit above the knowledge base and are always in front of the model:
| File | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Instructions | How the AI should behave here: tone, language, rules. |
| Glossary | Products, terms, abbreviations, names. |
Edit them in the chat side panel under Workspace context. A project has its own Instructions and Glossary that stack on top, plus an Escalations file that says when the AI must stop and ask a person. The memory agents keep is maintained by them and is not edited here.
Permissions
The Knowledge area is a permission area. A role with view can read and search; manage can add and delete. See Members and roles.
